From Madrid to Heaven with Leslie Croxford

From Madrid to Heaven with Leslie Croxford

We are delighted to be joined by literary doyen Leslie Croxford. Compared by The New Yorker with E. M. Forster and Lawrence Durrell, he captures an insightful outsider's view of Madrid as the apex of a triangle linking Spain, Portugal and North Africa, bound together not by plot or recurring characters, but by the author's keen sense of place and character. Leslie will read from and discuss his book of Madrid set short stories, “From Madrid to Heaven”.

Centred on the capital, the stories reach across to Lisbon and over the Mediterranean to Tangier. "From Madrid to Heaven is set in a borderland between Europe and Africa," he says.  "People are on the periphery, outsiders, ignored. The stories are written by a foreigner, an expatriate, with the eye of someone himself on the outside, seeing into the lives of those evidently or unknowingly lost."

Leslie lived in Madrid for 15 years, establishing the Madrid Campus of Suffolk University in Boston, and was a founder and Senior Vice-President of the British University for which he received an OBE. He now lives in Cairo.

The event is of interview format, drinks and snacks will be served and there will be a book signing. Whilst it is free, places are limited and we do request you buy a 3€ voucher, redeemable at the event.
