A WRITE SALON EVENT – The Write Salon is thrilled to welcome SPENCER REECE back to Madrid to talk about his long-awaited new collection of poems, Acts. In conversation with Spain-based Venezuelan poet and editor GABRIELA LOVERA, Spencer will talk about his spiritual and deeply human approach to poetry and the decades-long process of writing the poems in Acts.
Afterwards, readers will mingle with Spencer and Gabriela to continue the conversation over wine and snacks in Madrid’s only 100% English bookstore, Secret Kingdoms. Join us for this intimate, one-time literary event!
SPENCER REECE’S first book of poetry in 10 years, Acts, will be published in May 2024. A love letter to Madrid and the two East Coast towns where Reece has lived, Acts is also an homage to the letter form itself and the ways in which long-distance communication with loved ones has changed. A poet, priest and painter, Reece is the author of two acclaimed works of poetry: The Clerk’s Tale (2003), selected by Louise Glück for the Bakeless Prize, and The Road to Emmaus (2014), which was long-listed for the National Book Award and short-listed for the Griffin Prize. A vicar at St. Paul’s in Rhode Island, Reece lives and writes in Connecticut.
GABRIELA LOVERA is a poet, editor, and the founder of the alternative publishing space petalurgia.com. Her body of work includes poetry collections Extraño vértigo (2020), Desvelos (2012), Y de la noche tanto (2004), and Por debajo del viento (2000). Gabriela has also authored children’s books, ¡Tururú! (2024) and Duendes caseros ¡hasta en la tostadora! (2016), and a literary essay, Sabia Vida Savia: manual de irrealismo pragmático (2008).
